A Surgical Solution to Persistent Fat

Liposuction ScottsdaleA dedicated exercise routine and commitment to a balanced diet can give you outstanding health, but it does not guarantee that localized fat deposits on your body will disappear. When traditional methods of weight loss and body toning fail to get rid of unwanted fat, liposuction, or the surgical removal of fat deposits, can be an excellent solution. Dr. Steven Wiener provides liposuction at his Scottsdale, Arizona office, helping to eradicate excess fat in the thighs, neck, hips, midsection, and other areas. It can be administered by itself or in combination with other treatments such as abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) or brachioplasty (arm lift) to achieve a younger-looking, more toned figure. Liposuction Candidates

Liposuction can help most anyone with excess fat that does not respond to exercise or dieting. Suitable candidates for this treatment include non-smoking adults who have firm, elastic skin and good muscle tone, and are within 30 percent of their ideal weight. Candidates should be in good health, with no life-threatening medical conditions that might complicate the healing process. Having very specific goals in mind that you can discuss with Dr. Wiener also increases your chances of being satisfied with the results of liposuction treatment.

The Liposuction Procedure

Before undergoing liposuction, Dr. Wiener will meet with you to discuss your reasons for wanting the treatment and what you hope to achieve. He will evaluate your current health, take photos for your medical records, and discuss what you can expect to achieve through liposuction.

Before the liposuction begins, a local anesthetic is administered to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure. Next, small, discreet incisions are made in the skin, giving the surgeon access to underlying deposits of fat. A thin, hollow tube called a cannula is inserted and moved back and forth in a controlled motion to loosen the unwanted fat. The fat is then suctioned out through the cannula, using a special surgical vacuum.

Following Surgery

You will experience swelling and fluid retention after surgery. As these effects subside, you will begin to notice a marked difference in your figure. The duration of the swelling and the total recovery time required will depend upon the extent of your treatment. Dr. Wiener may give you special garments to wear during this time to help compress your skin to the treated area, resulting in a firm, toned new look. By exercising and maintaining a healthy diet, you can prolong the effects of your liposuction treatment.

Liposuction Risks

Under the care of Dr. Wiener, liposuction is a safe and effective treatment. However, it is important to understand that all surgical treatments, including liposuction, involve a degree of risk. Possible complications include loose skin, uneven contours, blood clots, and persistent swelling.
