Breast Augmentation Scottsdale

Breast Augmentation ScottsdaleThe breasts play an important role in a woman's figure. Their size, in relation to the hips, helps to create an attractive feminine figure. Clothing is often specifically tailored to complement an ample bosom. When a woman's breasts are disproportionately small, it can cause her to feel self-conscious about her appearance, which could in turn affect her self-esteem in a negative way. Breast augmentation performed at our Scottsdale, Arizona office can safely enlarge the breasts, giving women beautiful, natural-looking results that can help them feel excellent about their appearance and enjoy significantly boosted confidence.

Depending on your needs, breast augmentation can be customized in a number of ways, including the size and shape of the implant, and whether the implant is placed above or beneath the pectoral muscle. Dr. Steven Wiener will take careful note of your goals in order to recommend the variables that will give you the greatest satisfaction. The Breast Augmentation Procedure

After administering a local anesthetic to maintain your comfort throughout the procedure, breast augmentation begins with an incision in the breast, either in the natural crease below the breast, around the areola, or in the armpit. The implant may be placed either beneath the pectoral muscle or above it, directly behind the breast tissue. Submuscular placement generally yields the most natural-looking results. It puts the patient at less risk for capsular contracture, or the tightening of scar tissue around the implant, which can lead to rupture. One drawback is that the healing process following submuscular placement is longer. On the other hand, the alternative placement makes it easier to create cleavage, and involves a shorter and less painful recovery period.

By discussing your goals with Dr. Wiener, he can recommend the placement method that will best achieve the bust line you want.

Breast Implant Varieties

Breast implants themselves have several variable characteristics that can be adjusted to meet a range of goals:

Breast Implant Sizes

Breast implants are available in a wide range of sizes, from small (125cc) to very large (1,200cc). Women seeking a perkier, more youthful breast contour generally select more conservative implant sizes. On the other hand, women who desire more voluptuous breasts achieve their goal with larger implants.

Breast Implant Shapes

Breast implants can be either round or teardrop-shaped. Round breast implants provide the greatest amount of lift and cleavage enhancement. Meanwhile, many women feel teardrop-shaped implants provide the most natural appearance. Breast implants can shift after placement, and although a round implant would not affect the breast shape in the event of slippage, a teardrop-shaped implant could cause distortion under these circumstances. Your body type, existing breast tissue, and the contour you wish to achieve are all factors to consider when determining which breast implant shape is right for you. Breast Implant Textures

Patients can select implants with either a smooth surface, or a textured surface similar to sandpaper. Textured implants are more resistant to shifting, but are also more prone to leakage and rippling. Textured implants also generally cost more than smooth-surface implants, and can have a shorter lifespan. Dr. Wiener can help you determine which kind of implant will help you get the most satisfaction from your breast augmentation procedure.

Silicone versus Saline

Implants may be filled with either saline solution or silicone gel. Saline implants are available to patients 18 and over. Some women believe these implants tend to feel less natural than silicone implants. However, in the event of a ruptured implant, the leaking saline is simply absorbed into the body without causing any health problems. If this occurs, the implant shell is removed and usually replaced at the same time.

Many women find silicone implants, which are available to patients age 22 and older, to feel more natural. However, in the event of rupture, leakage is less noticeable, and breast pain can occur as a result. To detect any signs of rupture, the Food and Drug Administration recommends that women who have had silicone breast implants for at least three years should undergo MRI scans every two years.

Breast Augmentation Recovery

The duration of your recovery depends greatly on the variables chosen in your surgery. However, patients usually require an immediate post-surgery recovery period of 24 to 48 hours. Activity should be reduced for several days after surgery. Swelling and soreness will persist for a few weeks. Meanwhile, scarring will fade. Dr. Wiener can advise you when to resume exercise and other activities.

Breast Augmentation Risks

Breast augmentation, like any surgical procedure, involves some risks, and it is important to understand them before undergoing treatment. These risks include unfavorable scarring, blood clots, fluid accumulation, persistent pain, and infection. You can reduce these risks by choosing a reputable, qualified surgeon.
