Breast augmentation by an experienced surgeon can:
It is important to have realistic expectations for your breast augmentation procedure. You can discuss your goals and expectations with Dr. Wiener during your initial consultation, and he can determine if this procedure is right for you. For some patients, Dr. Wiener may recommend an alternate or additional procedure, such as a breast lift or liposuction, if it better suits their aesthetic goals.
Candidates for a breast augmentation must be in good physical health, reasonably fit, and have a healthy body weight. We recommend that you quit smoking (ideally on a permanent basis) and minimize your alcohol consumption in the weeks leading up to your surgery as well as during recovery.
During your initial consultation, you can discuss your medical history with Dr. Wiener to ensure you are a good candidate for this procedure. If he recommends breast augmentation, you and Dr. Wiener can begin making decisions regarding the type of implant you will receive and how it will be placed.
After administering local anesthesia to maintain your comfort throughout the procedure, breast augmentation begins with an incision, either in the natural crease below the breast, around the areola, or in the armpit. Dr. Wiener can place implants either beneath the pectoral muscle or directly behind the breast tissue.
With over 20 years of experience as a plastic surgeon, Dr. Wiener can help you achieve the figure you desire.
Submuscular placement generally yields the most natural-looking results. However, the healing process following submuscular placement is longer. On the other hand, subglandular placement makes it easier to create cleavage, and involves a shorter and less painful recovery period.
Once your implant is in place, Dr. Wiener will close the incision with sutures and wrap your breasts with a gauze bandage to provide support as you heal. In some cases, Dr. Wiener may need to place drainage tubes to minimize swelling and bruising.
Most patients require at least a couple of days of downtime immediately after their procedure, and one to two weeks away from work. Dr. Wiener will schedule follow-up visits to determine when you can safely resume exercise and other activities. Swelling and soreness will likely persist for a few weeks.
